The Lakes Region consists of more than 200 lakes and ponds and includes  nearly 200 miles of shoreline. It is a very popular tourist destination and offers all the charm of New England.


Lake Winnipesaukee remains the “Grand Dame” of the region and is very central to life here, providing swimming and boating opportunities in the summer and ice-fishing, skating, and snowmobiling in the winter. The nearby smaller and quieter Squam Lake was the location of the feature film On Golden Pond starring Katherine Hepburn and Henry Fonda. The area is rustic and unspoiled, despite attracting thousands of visitors every year.
